For the past ten years our charity PopUK has been welcomed into primary schools across the country to help schools achieve three vitally important educational provisions:
- Strengthening relationships between school, parents and community – every pupil in the school is involved in learning a set of vibrant, life-affirming pop songs. A CD is produced and the project ends with the whole school performing at a high profile community concert.
- Developing the wellbeing and wholeness of each child – the core values of PopUK focus on the social, moral, spiritual and emotional development of children. The songs provide the key for self-expression, self-confidence and pride. As the children sing, their minds are engaged and their spirits uplifted.
- Improving staff morale – Teachers are constantly having to improve pupils’ attainment and achieve new targets. This can create significant pressure and stress. PopUK creates an opportunity for the staff to have fun together by forming a scratch choir to record a ’secret’ track on the CD… the children discover this at the concert!
As stated in the new national curriculum: ‘Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. A high- quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.’
