Why do I need to report song usage?

The Department of Education pays the cost of the CCLI licence (for songs used in assemblies) and the PMLL licence (printing, photocopying & digitally displaying music scores) for all state schools in England. For performance of any music in concerts i.e. to parents or your school community, report using your school PRS & PPL licences (these are not covered by the Dept of Ed and must be purchased by schools) All other schools in UK & abroad need to ensure these licenses are covered by your school enabling songwriters to receive remuneration for songs used within assemblies, collective worship, and performances. Read more at:

How does CCLI work with schools? (for all music used in assemblies)

How does PMLL work with schools? (for all sheet music used in lessons or rehearsals)

How does Education Music Licence work with schools? (this provides PRS & PPL licences for all music played outside lessons and assemblies, for concerts and for extra curricular groups)

What if my school has not reported songs before?

You need to set up a CCLI ‘profile’ on the website https://profile.ccli.com/account/ and obtain your school Access Code from CCLI, which you will find on any correspondence from them or by contacting them.

For printing and photocopying sheet music, access your school’s PMLL portal

What if my school has reported before, but I can’t locate our account details?

Contact CCLI on 01323 436100 or through the Customer Support page to access your details. Then follow the process below.

Contact PMLL on 0203 848 7410 if you do not know your login details. Then follow the process below

Reporting to CCLI (for all songs used in assemblies & collective worship)

Each half-term, we will send you a unique PDF summarising the songs you’ve used at your school. The PDF will contain an active link for each song. These links take you straight to the song on the CCLI database. It speeds up the process of reporting considerably and we highly recommend you use our PDFs to report.

If you do not have our PDF and want to report our songs, please follow the instructions below:

1. Visit https://profile.ccli.com/account/ to log into your account by using your email, password and school Access Code from CCLI

2. You will arrive at your school’s CCLI home page

3. Ignore Auto-reporting and click reporting under Applications on the main page (not Applications in the left hand menu)

4. Now refer to the PDF we have emailed you summarising your usage.

5. Type the title of the first song listed in the PDF in the Search & Report

6. The details of the song will appear. Click Report Song

7. If there have been several plays of the same song, click 'Report Additional Usage

The PDF contains details of the date and time each song was used. If some of the plays refer to you previewing the work rather than using in class or assembly, please adjust accordingly; we are unable to differentiate.

8. Enter the number in the Uses box. NB if song usage is greater than 13: enter 13, press ‘save’ & continue to enter the remaining number of plays.

9. Now press Save

10. Now repeat the process for each song listed in your PDF.

11. Email us to confirm you have submitted your use of PopUK songs .
